Skill Matching visa (Subclass 134)

The Skill Matching visa has been designed to help overcome skill shortages by helping migrants to settle in parts of Australia where their skills and abilities are in demand. This is done by placing their details in the Skill Matching Database. The database is accessed by State and Territory governments and employers who may then nominate an applicant for migration.

Who is this visa for?

This visa is for people with skills and qualifications in an occupation that is required in Australia. These occupations are listed on Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

The Skill Matching visa does not have a points test, but there are other requirements that must be met. Each state and territory has a unique list of skilled occupations in demand (MODL).

What does this visa let me do?

This visa allows you and any dependent family members included in your visa application to live as permanent residents in Australia.

Australian permanent residents can:

  • live and work in Australia on a permanent basis
  • study in Australia at school or university
  • receive subsidised healthcare through Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
  • access certain social security payments (subject to waiting periods)
  • be eligible for Australian citizenship (subject to the residency eligibility criteria)
  • sponsor people for permanent residence.
